My journey to Climate Club

Hi, I’m Tim. I’m a teacher by day and run Climate Club in my spare time.

Back in 2017, I came to terms with the reality of climate change. What I mean by that is it finally hit home emotionally. This unlocked a deeper connection of mind and heart which kept presenting itself as a need to do something. But what?

Over the years, I’ve taken many different climate actions: writing to MPs, signing petitions, joining climate groups, installing solar, the list goes on. All of these actions are worthwhile, but my desire to make a greater difference kept coming back to me. What can I actually do to create a future that is better, different, more meaningful?

I’m not a climate scientist, but I understand the science, the tipping points, the projections. I know how bad things could get. Sometimes, I feel the hopelessness, the anxiety, the reality of all that we could lose. At the same time, I also feel the joy and wonder of life on this beautiful planet and the power of humans to come together and create a different outcome. And thus, the idea of Climate Club was born. Bring people together to care, talk, learn and perhaps to change.

Knowing that we never know unless we try, I ran my first Climate Club with work colleagues in 2024. Their feedback was overwhelmingly positive and I developed the content and structure further. Climate Club in its current format is now up and running, several times per year. So what are you waiting for? Will you give it a try? I’d love to see you at the next run of meetings!

None of us are to blame for where we are; we are all born into a system of extraction on a planet that is finite. But I passionately believe that we can use our time to be present and to face into our fears and our joys; to love and to care; and to change the system from the inside. We may not be able to individually solve the problems of climate change, but together we can change ourselves and send ripples out into the world. That is what motivates me. That is what keeps me working at this. Together, we can perhaps change the world.

I would love you to come to Climate Club because it’s different and I know you will find it interesting and rewarding. Come and be part of something that is helping to make a better world. I hope to hear from you soon.
